Retaliation Case Against New York City Police Department

A former police officer claims he was forced to retire after making discrimination complaints against the New York Police Department. According to the plaintiff, in March 2002, he was place on modified duty after an Internal Affairs investigation into his interaction with a suspected drug dealer. Although charges were brought against the officer in conjunction with that investigation, but he was ultimately found not guilty after a departmental trial. The plaintiff claimed that he was not permitted to return to full duty after the "not guilty" finding and that decision was made to retaliate against him for discrimination complaints he made against the Department in January 2005. During the trial, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly made a rare trial appearance.
